Sunday’s matches feature pre-tournament favorites England against Slovakia and Spain against the surprising Georgia.
England stumbled into the knockout stage despite having two of the three leaders in European goal contributions, while Georgia defied all odds to make it thus far but is facing an even taller task against Spain.
England has not set the world on fire at the Euros. They are yet to score more than one goal in a match and tied with both Denmark and Slovenia after narrowly creeping past Serbia in their opening match as the criticism of manager Gareth Southgate continues to boil.
Slovakia scored once in all three matches of the Group Stage but did not look convincing in the attack. But even though England has far better players on paper, they haven’t been able to put the final product together on the pitch.
With a crucial piece in Phil Foden potentially set to miss the match through the birth of his child and the team misfiring in general, this is shaping up to be a match with few goals in it.
Georgia pulled off the biggest upset in the history of the Euros by beating Portugal 2-0 in their final match of the Group Stage and advancing to the Knockout their first time in the competition. But unfortunately for the feisty underdogs, their run is likely to end here.
The Spaniards are yet to concede a goal in the tournament and are up to second in odds to win the title. They already managed wins against teams such as Croatia and Italy and have a blend of tactical solidarity and athleticism they lacked at the World Cup.
Georgia deserves praise for making it this far and can still consider it a success to have made the Knockout. Plus, they can technically cash this bet and still advance to the next round.
