HELENA – Will Lyng contemplated his postgame meal, holding the game ball from his latest accomplishment under the sun with a smile on his face.
If he’s at local eatery Shellie’s, it’s likely a breakfast burrito for the Helena Capital graduate and Beloit College commit. To really indulge, the lanky righty considered getting all three meats (ham, bacon, sausage) in his meal.
These ingredients blend together like Lyng’s fastball, slider, and two-seamer, which he combined to pitch a no-hitter against the Laurel Dodgers in a 9-1 five-inning victory on Sunday at the Keith Sell Tournament Championship Game.
Helena secured its fourth consecutive tournament win and ninth overall in the 29-year history of the event, which honors the program’s former coach and general manager.

“That was a fun one,” Lyng remarked, as the baseball in his left hand joined a couple of others in his Senators locker as keepsakes.
Lyng retired the final 13 batters he faced on Sunday, bouncing back from an early walk and run to deliver his second five-inning no-hitter of the season (May 25), but his first at Kindrick Legion Field.
“Everything was on point,” Senators catcher Connor Devine said. “He hit his spots, didn’t miss over the plate…
“Everything was sharp, slider looked really sharp.”
Laurel entered Sunday with a 10-game win streak but was no match for Lyng’s pitching.
His breaking balls and two-seamers induced ground outs and weak pop flies from the Laurel batters.
