HELENA — Merek Mihelish found the offer from the University of Montana exciting and easy to accept.
Despite receiving various scholarship offers from Frontier colleges, Mihelish, a standout player at Helena Capital, always aspired to play D-1 football.
This dream became a reality when Mihelish officially committed to the Montana Grizzlies in the 2025 class.
“On the visit, I knew this was where I belonged,” he stated. “So, I decided to make it official as soon as possible.”
Mihelish, an all-state athlete in both football and another sport at Capital High School, made a significant impact as a quarterback last season, earning all-state honors after impressive stats.

Although Mihelish excelled on offense, the Grizzlies envision a defensive role for him based on his athleticism and potential.
“Coach Tim Hauck believes I could transition to become a safety for the Griz,” Mihelish shared. “His background in the NFL adds significance to this offer.”
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 170 pounds, Mihelish’s versatility and athleticism make him a strong prospect for the safety position.
Despite having quarterback offers from other schools, Mihelish is eager to embrace any role that will contribute to the team’s success.
