Missoulians got a reminder Monday afternoon that wildfire season has begun, with smoke visible from town as a small blaze burned in the North Hills.
Firefighters were dispatched at around 3:30 p.m. to respond to a brush fire along Grant Creek Road. The Missoula Fire Department asked on social media that the public stop calling in reports of the smoke from the fire, as fire crews had already responded.
The current wildfire danger for Missoula County remains at āmoderateā levels, though open burning season is scheduled to end Tuesday. The National Weather Service was recording wind gusts of up to 29 mph at the airport Monday afternoon.
