Will Smith introduced his latest single, “You Can Make It,” at the 2024 BET Awards, marking his first-ever performance at the event.
Just two days after releasing the track on June 28, Smith took the stage at the BET Awards, standing on a circular podium surrounded by a ring of fire. He was accompanied by Chandler Moore and Sunday Service Choir.
The performance took an unexpected turn when gospel singer Kirk Franklin joined Smith on stage to deliver a powerful spoken-word piece in the form of a sermon. The duo was later joined by backup singers, before Smith closed out the performance with inspiring lines about embracing challenges and opportunities. Watch the performance video below.
BET had announced Smith as a special performer prior to the event, praising his long and successful career in the music and entertainment industry.
Before his BET Awards performance, Smith had most recently performed at the 2023 Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop, where he reunited with DJ Jazzy Jeff for a medley of their hits. The duo previously won a Grammy for their 1988 hit single, “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”
Smith made history as the first rapper to win a Grammy Award.
Leading up to the BET Awards, the actor and musician shared a video of himself playing the piano on Instagram, reflecting on the power of music to inspire and uplift during difficult times.
Smith has enjoyed great success with his return to the big screen in the blockbuster film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The movie has grossed over $300 million worldwide, solidifying its place as one of the top-grossing films of the year.
