The Billings Fire Department plans to close public areas and parks along the Rims during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.
The closures will include parks and public lands along the Rims on the south side of Highway 3 from Main Street in the Heights to Zimmerman Park. Closures will begin at 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 and will remain in effect until Friday morning.
Vehicle, bike, and pedestrian access is prohibited during this period. The Billings Police Department, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Airport Police, and Billings Fire Department will be patrolling the closed areas to reduce the risk of serious incidents that could affect public safety.
The sale, use and possession of fireworks is prohibited within Billings city limits. However, fireworks are permitted in Yellowstone County outside the city limits. People are advised to use caution when using fireworks in rural areas.

Harvest Church is hosting a free, public fireworks display at MetraPark. A professional fireworks show paired with patriotic music will be provided by Big Sky Fireworks at dusk.
Parking is free in the upper and lower lots at MetraPark. Nearby businesses will also open their parking lots on a first-come, first-served basis.
The festivities are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. around the outdoor pavilion near the pond at MetraPark. There will be live entertainment, food trucks, lawn games, country line dancing, face painting, balloon animals and other activities.
