A 10-year-old boy has passed away after being rescued from a hike in Arizona during triple-digit temperatures.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday at South Mountain in Phoenix.
Officials from Phoenix Fire stated that the boy was accompanied by adults and may have been visiting from another location.
He embarked on the hike around 9:30 a.m., but it wasn’t until approximately 2:30 p.m. that emergency services were notified of a heat-related issue.
Emergency responders utilized a helicopter to bring the boy down from the mountain. He was then transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he later passed away.
The temperature in Phoenix on Tuesday reached 113 degrees.
Heat is the leading cause of weather-related fatalities, not only in Arizona but throughout the United States.
