HELENA, Mont. – Almost two years into its role as Montana’s tech hub, the Headwaters Hub has secured $41 million for future expansion.
The Headwaters Hub is dedicated to bringing technological innovation to Montana, with a focus on photonic sensing systems that impact various aspects of everyday life, from cell phone cameras to sensors used in agriculture or military applications.
The funding of over $40 million is attributed to congress’ Chips and Sciences Act, which aims to advance technology in the United States and support rural providers.
Dr. Tim Vanhekken of Headwaters Hub highlighted Montana’s position as one of the top five places for optics and photonics technologies, emphasizing that this funding will drive the state’s progress even further.
This funding will enable advancements in educational and training opportunities at universities, as well as the development of final stage testing areas.
Furthermore, the Headwaters Hub will invest in agricultural technology, such as devices to identify crop abnormalities, and prioritize military technology like object detection systems.
The immediate implementation of this funding will kickstart the hub’s expansion plans.
