Target to Banks: Open and Closed on July Fourth

Don’t stress if you’re waiting until the last minute to grab your Fourth of July barbecue groceries; some stores will still be open to help you out.

While most government offices are closed for the holiday, there are still businesses open with limited hours to accommodate your needs.

Given that the Fourth of July falls in the middle of summer and is a popular travel holiday, expect places like hotels, gas stations, and airports to be open and bustling with activity.

Here’s a rundown of the Fourth of July hours for some common stops you might make.

Government and banking

Most nonessential government employees have the day off on federal holidays like July Fourth, leading to the closure of their offices for observance.

This includes the U.S. Postal Service, so don’t anticipate any mail deliveries. UPS and FedEx services will also be on hold for the holiday, although UPS and FedEx store hours will vary by location.

Other government offices deemed nonessential that will be closed include the DMV and public libraries.

Public schools, courts, the stock market, and the majority of banks will also be closed, although ATM and online services will still be accessible.

Grocery and retail

Most supermarket chains will maintain regular operating hours on the Fourth of July, while other retail stores may have adjusted hours or be closed altogether.
