President Biden and first lady Jill Biden welcomed military veterans and their families to the White House on Thursday to mark the Fourth of July holiday.
Earlier in the week, the president and first lady also met with active-duty military service members and their families. A separate event was held in the evening for military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors, during which President Biden delivered remarks in honor of Independence Day.
“All those who have served in the military are true heroes, heroes for freedom, democracy, and America,” President Biden stated. “As we reflect on our past, we must ask ourselves if we will continue to stand for freedom, democracy, and unity as Americans. I believe we will.”
“We must embody the values of dignity, honor, and mutual devotion just like our founders,” President Biden emphasized. “Our nation is built on democracy, freedom, and solidarity.”
“We are the United States of America, a unique and unparalleled nation in the world,” he concluded.
Later in the evening, the President, the first lady, Vice President Kamala Harris, and second gentleman Doug Emhoff are expected to watch the fireworks display over the National Mall.
These events follow a challenging week for President Biden, who faced criticism about his readiness for the 2024 presidential election. Despite these challenges, he reaffirmed his commitment to running for re-election and expressed confidence in the Democratic party’s ability to succeed.
“I am resolute in my decision to continue in this race, and together, we will emerge victorious,” President Biden assured his supporters.
During a campaign call, he reiterated his determination, stating, “There is no one else I would rather have by my side in this fight than all of you. Let us join forces and achieve our goals together.”
