KALISPELL — Fourth of July in the Flathead kicked off with the downtown Kalispell parade, featuring a special float this year.
Volunteers from the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run had the opportunity to share their message during the Kalispell 4th of July Parade.
“Our goal is to remind everyone that the world is one family and that each individual can make a difference,” said Harita Davies, a volunteer peace runner.
The peace run involves a torch relay covering 10,000 miles across the US and Canada. Sixty volunteer runners from over 20 countries carry the torch to promote the idea that world peace is achievable.
“We believe that taking small steps collectively can lead to global peace,” Davies explained.
Since 1987, the peace run has been spreading its message through schools, community events, meetings with local leaders, and more. Participating in the Kalispell parade allowed them to reach a wider audience.
“We are thrilled to be part of this parade as we aim to engage with the communities we pass through. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with people in places we wouldn’t normally visit,” Davies expressed.
Members of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run passed the torch to parade spectators and discussed their mission.
“By allowing people to hold the torch, we give them a moment to reflect on their inner desire for peace. Our message is about unity. If we all embrace peace within ourselves, the world would be a better place,” Davies told MTN.
