BOZEMAN — The College M Trail is one of the most popular trail running spots in Bozeman. Unfortunately, sometimes this recreational activity can take a turn for the worse. Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue recently rescued someone from the trail on Tuesday night.
When I asked some trail runners coming down from the M trail how often they run there, they mentioned running once or twice a week due to its proximity to their homes.
The M trail leading to Baldy Peak is a busy spot for trail runners, but even the most experienced individuals can encounter mishaps. Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue team member Jason Revisky shared about the rescue mission they undertook for an injured trail runner.
Jason, who has been with GCSSAR for 30 years, described the efforts of the team to reach the injured runner and provide essential medical assistance before transporting him safely back to the trailhead.
The summer has been busy for GCSSAR with multiple rescue operations, including helping injured bicyclists, stranded rafters, and lost hikers in various locations. Commander Matt Boxmeyer expects the rest of the summer to remain active with more people venturing out into the mountains.
Boxmeyer advises summer recreators to be prepared with appropriate gear, communication devices, and to inform others about their plans before heading out to ensure safety. He also emphasizes the importance of having enough food and water for unexpected situations.
During the recent rescue operation, Jason highlighted the importance of community members offering assistance to those in need, as it can make a significant difference in challenging situations.
