[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for the July 5 episode of Jeopardy!]
In the July 5 episode of Jeopardy!, the winner was clear, but the battle for second place was unexpected.
Isaac Hirsch, a customer support team lead from Burbank, California, returned as a two-day champ with total winnings of $47,986. He competed against writer and editor Sarah Crocker from Aurora, Colorado, and Duke University rising senior Alex Wang from Harrington Park, New Jersey. Hirsch dominated the game, leading after both the Jeopardy! and Double Jeopardy! rounds. He headed into Final Jeopardy! with $26,200, while Crocker had $5,000 and Wang had $1,600.
Despite modest wagers on the Daily Doubles, Hirsch remained correct and in the lead throughout. In Final Jeopardy, only Wang correctly answered the clue about World Languages, earning an additional $410. Hirsch won $22,200 more for a three-day total of $70,186. Crocker, who should have secured second place based on her standing before Final Jeopardy!, ended up in third place with $500 after wagering $4,500.
Viewers were puzzled by Crocker’s unnecessary wager, with one Reddit user questioning why she bet $4,500 when it was not needed for her to secure second place.
Hirsch may secure a spot in the Tournament of Champions with a win on July 8. Viewers are anticipating his continued success after his impressive performances in the first three games.
Fans are excited to see Isaac Hirsch in future competitions, with some speculating about his potential inclusion in the Tournament of Champions based on his strong gameplay so far.
