In Montana, temperatures reached the 70s today, with some areas like Missoula warming up into the 80s. Thunderstorms kept temperatures in the 60s in certain areas, with gusty winds accompanying the storms in central and eastern parts of the state.
A storm system moving through northwest flow is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms this evening and again on Saturday. High pressure will build on Sunday, setting the stage for a major heat wave next week.
There is a heat advisory from Tuesday to Saturday for regions like Missoula, Bitterroot, Mission, and Flathead Valleys, where triple digit heat is expected by mid-week. This hot weather will spread to central and eastern areas later in the week.
The heat wave and dry conditions are predicted to continue until around July 20th. Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s and 50s, with highs in the 70s and 80s tomorrow. Temperatures will rise into the 90s and 100s by the middle and end of next week and into the weekend.
