The Billings Mustangs lost both ends of a makeup doubleheader with the Northern Colorado Owlz at Dehler Park on Friday night, unable to secure a win in two attempts.
Billings (17-23 overall) suffered defeats of 10-5 and 9-1 in the pair of seven-inning games, which were scheduled after Wednesday’s game between the Mustangs and Owlz (24-16) was postponed due to inclement weather.
In the first game, Northern Colorado came out strong with a 10-run first inning, forcing starter Ethan McRae out of the game after just one out and allowing seven earned runs off six hits.
Although the Owlz did not score again after the first inning, the Ponies could not generate enough offense to mount a comeback. Dustin Crenshaw led the team with two RBIs, but it was not sufficient.
In the second game, Northern Colorado scored nine unanswered runs, including five in the third inning, two in the fourth, and two in the seventh. Billings managed only two hits in the game, avoiding a shutout with a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning.
