The Scripps News Toll-Free Viewer Hotline provides our audience with a platform to share their thoughts on our coverage. Through our weekly Viewer Spotlight, we address some of the concerns that are raised.
Recently, a common question has been, “Where’s the good news?”
One call from Rhonda expressed, “The world can be harsh and negative, but there are also moments of positivity that shine through. It would be uplifting to see more of that light.”
Additionally, a comment on our YouTube page asked, “Have you ever considered reporting news that isn’t always negative? Not all news has to be bad news.”
These sentiments are echoed by many others.
A 2024 survey conducted by Reuters Institute and The University of Oxford reveals that 39% of respondents worldwide sometimes or often avoid the news, a significant increase from 29% in 2017.

Many find the news to be disheartening, especially with ongoing stories like the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
While acknowledging the significance of such stories, we understand that constant coverage of unresolved issues can leave viewers feeling powerless.
Therefore, we strive to offer a balance by featuring stories with positive outcomes, solutions, and individuals making a difference.
