NHTSA launches recall query into 94,000 Jeep Wranglers as loss of motive power complaints continue
NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. government’s auto safety agency is investigating a potential “loss of motive power” in more than 94,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles, after receiving complaints for cars outside the scope of an earlier recall involving an engine shutdown condition in the same SUV model. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it opened a recall query to assess the severity of the alleged defect as well as the effectiveness of the remedy provided in the recall of select Jeep Wrangler 4xes announced in November 2022. According to the NHTSA, failure complaints involve both vehicles that already received the remedy for this 2022 recall and those not initially included.
A woman who received a pig kidney transplant plus a heart pump has died
WASHINGTON (AP) — A woman who received a pig kidney transplant has died. Lisa Pisano received both the kidney and an implanted device to pump her failing heart in April at NYU Langone Health. Her heart medications damaged the pig kidney, forcing doctors to remove it 47 days later and return her to dialysis. The hospital says she eventually entered hospice care and died Sunday. An earlier pig kidney recipient at Massachusetts General Hospital also died a few months afterward. Still, doctors learning from these experimental surgeries hope to begin clinical trials of pig organs next year.
Awwww! Four endangered American red wolf pups ‘thriving’ since birth at Missouri wildlife reserve
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The world’s most endangered wolf species got a big boost at a Missouri wildlife reserve — four little puppies born this spring. The April 26 birth of a female American red wolf pup named Otter was followed by a litter of three other pups — Molly and her brothers Finn and Obi — on May 4. All four were born at the St. Louis Zoo’s Sears Lehmann Jr. Wildlife Reserve about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of St. Louis. Zoo officials said all four are healthy and thriving. Only about 20 American red wolves live in the wild. Another 290 red wolves live in human care, including 17 at the St. Louis Zoo’s Wildlife Reserve.

Novak Djokovic uses Wimbledon crowd’s ‘disrespect’ as fuel as he moves closer to another title
LONDON (AP) — Novak Djokovic is just one example of a superstar athlete who manages to find motivation wherever possible. Serena Williams, Michael Jordan and Tom Brady are others who come to mind. With Djokovic, it often derives from crowds who are against him. Or at least his perception that they are. At Wimbledon, the 24-time Grand Slam champion was certain that people in the Centre Court stands Monday night were drawing out the pronunciation of his opponent’s last name to sound like they were booing. Djokovic took that personally. He objected to the “disrespect” he thought was being directed his way.
Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are officially divorced
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are officially divorced. A Los Angeles County judge’s dissolution of the actors’ nearly seven-year marriage took effect Tuesday. Bonet, a star of the “Cosby Show,” filed a petition to end her marriage to the “Aquaman” star in January, but the two had already been separated for more than three years. The divorce was quick and amicable. Neither will get financial support from the other, and they’ll have joint custody of their teenage son and daughter. It was the first marriage for Momoa and the second for Bonet. She was previously married to rocker Lenny Kravitz.
Brett Favre is asking an appeals court to reinstate his defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Lawyers for retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre have asked a federal appeals court to revive a defamation lawsuit Favre filed against a fellow Pro Football Hall of Fame member — former tight end Shannon Sharpe. The case stems from a Mississippi state’s auditor’s finding that Favre improperly received $1.1 million in speaking fees from an organization that spent money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. Favre repaid the money and hasn’t been criminally charged. His suit over remarks Sharpe made on a sports TV show in 2022 was rejected by a federal district judge. Arguments took place Tuesday at the appeals court in New Orleans. The panel gave no indication when it would rule.
United Airlines flight loses wheel after takeoff from Los Angeles and lands safely in Denver

The airline said Monday that there were no reported injuries on the ground or on board Flight 1001. The wheel was recovered in LA. The airline says it is investigating what happened. The Boeing 757-200 was carrying 174 passengers and 7 crewmembers. It’s the second time a United Boeing jet lost a tire in the past few months. A United Boeing B777-200 jet lost a tire mid-air after takeoff from San Francisco in March.

Yousofi will compete in the 100-meter sprint and will be one of three female athletes on the Afghanistan team in Paris. She says “It’s an honor to represent the girls of my homeland once again. I represent the stolen dreams and aspirations of these women.”
More than 3 million pass through US airport security in a day for the first time as travel surges
Agents for the U.S. Transportation Security Administration on Sunday screened 3 million airline passengers in a single day for the first time ever. The record topped the June 23 mark of more than 2.99 million screened passengers. Eight of the 10 busiest days in TSA’s history have come this year, as the number of travelers tops pre-pandemic levels. TSA was created after the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and replaced a collection of private security companies that were hired by airlines. The agency operates under the Department of Homeland Security, which said that agents on Sunday checked 35 passengers every second.
