Euro 2024 semifinal odds, preview & picks: Best bets for France vs. Spain odds on Tuesday
England entered the tournament as the odds-on favorite to win the competition, but is down to second at +250 (BetMGM) following a string of unconvincing performances.
Spain is the favorite to win the tournament at +190 (BetMGM). The new-look squad has shown an impressive ability to play on the front foot and eliminated the hosts, Germany, 2-1 in extra time in the quarterfinal.
Third in the oddsmakers’ list of teams to win the tournament is 2018 World Cup winner and 2022 World Cup runner-up France. They knocked out Portugal on penalty kicks after a stale 0-0 draw and are the only team in the history of the Euros to reach the semifinal without scoring a goal from open play.
The final team remaining is the Netherlands, who have +440 odds to win the competition. They’ve scored more goals than any of their remaining opponents but haven’t looked solid in defense.
The Spaniards struggled to transition when their golden generation exited the national team. Those struggles are now nothing more than a distant memory, as the country’s previous possession-based approach has been replaced with one of speed, vigorous attacking and aggressive pressing.
Spain’s ascendance to the odds-on favorite reflects the quality of its performances at the tournament and is the correct reflection of what’s happened thus far.
France’s usual attacking potency has completely disappeared. The service to their front-line players has been lacking, and without N’Golo Kante covering the entire pitch, they’d be overrun in the midfield.
Kylian Mbappe only has one goal (from a penalty kick) as he continues to struggle with a broken nose, and nobody else has emerged as a credible goal-scoring threat.
For all of France’s shortcomings in the attacking third, they only conceded one goal during the entire tournament. This will be another test of maturity for a less-experienced Spain squad, but we still believe in them to come through with a win.
