Reports from Argentina indicate that two members of the French national rugby team currently touring South America have been arrested following an allegation of sexual assault. Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, who were part of France’s recent Test victory against Argentina, were detained in Buenos Aires and are set to be taken to Mendoza, where the alleged crime occurred.
According to Martin Ahumada, a spokesperson for the Mendoza prosecutor’s office, a commission from Mendoza is on their way to Buenos Aires to bring the players back for examinations. If the findings align with the victim’s testimony, charges will be pressed.
Local media reports suggest that the incident took place at the Diplomatic Hotel in Mendoza where the French team was staying for the Test match. The players were arrested at the request of local prosecutors following the accusation.
France’s upcoming matches against Uruguay and Argentina are now in question as the investigation progresses. French Rugby Federation president, Florian Grill, expressed concern for the victim and emphasized the seriousness of the allegations.
– Player in racism scandal –
The arrests come shortly after a separate scandal involving France fullback Melvyn Jaminet who was removed from the squad in Argentina due to racist comments captured on video. The FFR condemned Jaminet’s remarks as unacceptable and contrary to the values of the sport.
Jaminet later apologized for his actions and acknowledged the repercussions of his statement on social media.
This incident has sparked discussions around racism in sports and the importance of upholding integrity and respect in all forms of competition.
