The ongoing war in Ukraine may have faded from the headlines in the U.S., but the conflict with Russia continues to ravage the lives of those in Ukraine.
Recently, Russia carried out a devastating missile strike on a children’s hospital in Kyiv, specializing in treating child victims of Russian attacks and pediatric cancer. The death toll from this attack has tragically reached at least 40.
Anna Sorokina, a Kyiv resident, shared her firsthand experience of living through the turmoil. Growing up near the Russian border in the Luhansk region, she has endured the harsh realities of war since 2014.
“War has been a constant presence in my life,” she recounted. “Moving to Kyiv just before the full-scale invasion in February 2022, I have witnessed the impact of conflict firsthand, and it has taken a toll on me mentally.”

When the hospital was attacked, Sorokina found herself near the bombing. She described the moment when the air raid alarm went off, and the subsequent explosions that shook her surroundings.
“It was a devastating attack,” she said. “The targeting of a children’s hospital that treats cancer patients is beyond comprehension.”
As leaders from NATO nations convene in Washington to discuss support for Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is urging increased assistance from countries like the U.S.
Sorokina echoed this plea for support, emphasizing the urgent need for air defense systems and military aid to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.
