BOZEMAN — Moving to Europe entering his sophomore year of high school wasn’t acceptable in the 15-year-old mind of Mark McGrath.
His stepfather, who worked at Boeing, had taken a job in Naples, Italy, to work on a project with airline Alitalia. It was scheduled for two years, meaning McGrath would miss out on his sophomore and junior years of high school.
McGrath’s parents tried as hard as they could to make him and his sister happy. That included getting an allowance of $5 a week.
The change proved to be too much. McGrath and his sister pooled money together so McGrath could get back to the United States.
