For far too long, oil and gas companies have exploited public lands for their own gain. They paid minimal rates, dodged cleanup costs, and left taxpayers on the hook for billions.
Thankfully, the Department of the Interior enacted common-sense reforms. Companies now pay a fairer share for drilling on public property, and increased bonding rates hold them accountable for cleanup – all without impacting production.
However, Big Oil and its allies in Congress are pushing to roll back these reforms. This would be a disastrous choice driven by corporate greed. We can’t afford to return to a system that benefits oil executives at the expense of American families.
The onshore oil and gas rule benefits hard-working families. It ensures a fair return on public resources that can be used to fund schools, infrastructure, and essential services. Removing this rule would funnel billions more into the pockets of Big Oil CEOs, leaving taxpayers holding the bag.
