During a press conference at the NATO summit in Washington, President Joe Biden reiterated his commitment to running in the 2024 presidential race. He stated that he still believes he is the best-qualified Democratic candidate.
When asked if delegates to the Democratic National Convention could vote their conscience if they have second thoughts about supporting him, President Biden responded, “Obviously they’re free to do whatever they want. But I have overwhelming support.”
He acknowledged that if at the convention the majority wanted someone else, that’s a part of the democratic process, but he expressed confidence that it would not happen.
President Biden addressed concerns about polling data and potential challengers, stating, “I believe I’m the best qualified to govern and win. A lot can happen, but it’s hard to start from scratch.”
The president also discussed the idea of Vice President Kamala Harris potentially running against former President Donald Trump, affirming his confidence in her abilities and his decision to remain in the race unless advised otherwise.
