BILLINGS — Facing mounting safety risks at the 95-year-old site, Billings Public Schools closed the crumbling concrete stands on Daylis Stadium’s west side “until further notice” Thursday — with the Big Sky State Games still set to open at the field next Friday.
The decision by administrators followed an extended discussion Thursday morning by the district’s High School Solutions Committee about the future of Daylis, home to football teams from Billings West, Billings Skyview and the on-campus Billings Senior.
Earlier this week the committee presented a $62 million proposal to transform the stadium into a modern athletics facility. For now and likely through football season, the west stands have closed because the concrete could cause injuries, school officials said.
