BILLINGS — A strong ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the weather of Montana and Wyoming, allowing a few highs to flirt with records on Thursday. High-altitude smoke is also moving into our sky, causing a slight decrease in air quality. However, most of the smoke is expected to stay at higher altitudes for now.
The high pressure system will continue to control our weather, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms forming over the mountains Friday afternoon and moving towards lower elevations by early evening. Friday will be slightly cooler, but still hot, with only a few areas having a chance for measurable rain to end the week.
A small trough of low pressure is forecast to move over southern Canada on Sunday and early Monday, resulting in a minor cooling of our weather, along with some breezy conditions and isolated mountain showers and thunderstorms. The ridge will then strengthen over the Rockies for most of next week, keeping temperatures in the 90s and 100s.
