BILLINGS — It has been three years since the tragic death of 19-year-old Laurel woman Alexus “Lexy” Pyle in a two-vehicle collision. The driver of the car she was in was supposed to be sentenced in June, but the sentencing has been delayed until December. Despite the challenges, Pyle’s family is dedicating this summer to community outreach, aiming to honor Pyle’s memory through her foundation with events like a Color Run.
Sixteen-year-old Taylor Dunn remembers her sister, Pyle, for the way she made others feel.
“She was always cheerful, bubbly, silly, and she loved it,” Dunn shared at Billings Pioneer Park on Saturday.
Despite a tough year, Dunn and her family are looking ahead to the future.
“Unfortunately, the sentencing delay prolongs the grieving process…it will now take place on December 3rd,” mentioned Pyle’s aunt, Jennifer Sayler.
They are embracing the community through the Love for Lexy Foundation.
“We offer nursing scholarships to girls pursuing nursing,” Dunn explained.
This is just one aspect of the foundation. Pyle enjoyed getting dressed up for events like prom.
“For girls in need of a prom dress, we provide them with one if they are short on funds or need it last minute,” said Dunn.
The foundation also gives gifts to underprivileged children through their Christmas for Kids program. The family plans to mark August 3, the day of Pyle’s passing, by hosting a Color Run at Pioneer Park.
“Every color I see reminds me of my sister because she was so vibrant and lively,” Dunn expressed.
“Families can come together to run or walk – it’s about uniting the community to remember Lexy,” stated Sayler.
In addition to the Color Run, the family is honoring Pyle in August by releasing special plates in her memory.
“People can purchase Love for Lexy plates and see sunflowers around, symbolizing her,” added Sayler.
The foundation will also organize a car show in Pyle’s honor in August, celebrating her love for cars, color, and people.
“I’m glad we are keeping her memory alive,” Dunn concluded.
