MILES CITY, Mont. – A storm caused havoc across Miles City on Saturday.
According to the press release from Custer County Firefighters on July 14, at 12:04 a.m., their estimate was that Miles City could be without power from anywhere between 24 and 36 hours.
Many landlines are down, and powerlines down all over town and around the entirety of Custer County. The hospital and the water treatment plant are being prioritized in renewing electricity before everywhere else.
All available resources are assisting to get things back up and running.
It is vital that residents do not put fallen tree branches in the streets. Miles City started allowing people to take these branches to the Honda trails along the dike road at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 14.
Additionally, the landfill opened at 10:00 a.m.
“If you bring more than just tree branches, you will be turned away,” the update from Sunday morning at 8:24 a.m. said.
Residents are asked to not contact dispatch unless in an emergency. Also, residents must treat all powerlines as though they are live.
“Anyone that has any families or friends on oxygen please check on them,” the initial post said.
The U.S. National Weather Service out of Glasgow, Montana, is asking area residents for reports of damage, hail, high winds, or flooding from the storm, with description of what occurred, when it occurred and where it occurred. Residents submitting their damage reports area encouraged to submit photos.
