Paul Mescal is optimistic about the potential success of “Gladiator II” and “Wicked” being able to replicate the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
Both blockbuster films are scheduled to premiere on Nov. 22, and Mescal is hopeful that they can generate the same excitement that surrounded the release of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” in July 2023.
During an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Mescal expressed his thoughts: “Wickdiator doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it? If it can have a similar impact as ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer,’ then my preference would likely be Glicked. It would be fantastic because the films are complete opposites, and that dynamic worked well previously. So, let’s hope that audiences turn out to see both films on their opening weekend.”
In the sequel, the Oscar nominee portrays the character of Lucius Verus, the former heir to the Roman Empire who is enslaved. Mescal shared the challenges he faced in preparing for the role without going to extremes.
