Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle announced that the agency will be part of an investigation into its actions during an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday.
This decision follows President Joe Biden’s order for an independent review of national security at the Pennsylvania rally where the incident occurred. President Biden stated that the findings will be shared with the American public.
“The Secret Service is collaborating with federal, state, and local agencies to understand the events surrounding the incident, how it unfolded, and how to prevent such an occurrence in the future,” Cheatle stated. “We recognize the importance of the independent review initiated by President Biden and will fully participate. We will also cooperate with the appropriate Congressional committees for oversight.”

Trump revealed that a bullet grazed the upper part of his right ear during the incident. One rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, tragically lost his life while shielding his family from the gunfire. Two others were critically injured but are now in stable condition.
The shooting raised concerns about security measures at the event and how such an attack could occur.
Cheatle also addressed questions about security efforts at the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, expressing confidence in the existing plans.
“I have faith in the security plan developed by our Secret Service RNC coordinator and partners, which we have reinforced following the shooting on Saturday. The security plans for National Special Security Events are adaptable. As per the President’s guidance, the Secret Service will continuously adjust our operations to ensure the safety of convention attendees, volunteers, and the city of Milwaukee,” Cheatle assured.
“In addition to the security enhancements provided to former President Trump’s detail in June, we have made changes to his security detail since Saturday to ensure his protection throughout the convention and the rest of the campaign,” she added.
The shooter in the attack on Saturday, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot by the Secret Service.
