North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum was among the potential vice presidential candidates considered by former President Donald Trump, although Ohio Sen. JD Vance ultimately secured the role. Despite this outcome, Burgum’s political future is far from over.
As the Republican governor’s second term nears its end in December, new opportunities may arise, especially if Vance, his almost-running mate, is elected.
During the Republican National Convention, Scripps News’ Maritsa Georgiou questioned Burgum about rumors regarding a recent phone call from Trump where he greeted Burgum as “Hi, Secretary” before informing him they wouldn’t be running mates in this election cycle.
Burgum didn’t directly address this, but mentioned Trump’s continued support and expressed optimism about potential future roles, emphasizing that these opportunities hinge on Trump winning the election.
He stated, “There are no cabinet positions for anyone unless he wins, and our priority now is to ensure President Trump returns to the White House.”
