In the lead-up to the WNBA All-Star Game, Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever made history by setting the league’s all-time single-game assist record with an impressive 19 assists during the Fever’s 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings on Wednesday.
The previous record of 18 assists was held by Courtney Vandersloot since 2020.
Clark also contributed 24 points and six rebounds in the game, alongside teammate Aliyah Boston who scored 28 points.
Speaking after the game, Clark humbly expressed, “I just try to set my teammates up for success. I can sometimes overpass and I can maybe — there were probably a few times I could shoot the ball. Especially with [Boston]. I am just looking to set her up.”

Since learning she wouldn’t be joining Team USA for the Olympics, Clark has increased her production, leading the WNBA in assists per game with an average of 8.2. She has also been scoring over 20 points per game in July.
With 15 games left in the season, Clark set the single-season franchise record for assists with 215 in her rookie year.
“We are just getting better and better as we play with her, to be on the same page as her,” mentioned Fever coach Christie Sides.
Clark’s impact has been evident as the WNBA has seen a rise in attendance and ratings this season. The Fever have averaged nearly 17,000 fans per game, a significant increase from the previous year.
Though not selected for Team USA, Clark will be participating in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game, where she will compete against other top players not on Team USA.
Following the All-Star Game, the WNBA will go on a four-week break for the Summer Olympics. Clark and the Fever will return to action on Aug. 16.
