Former president Donald Trump addressed the audience at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Thursday (July 18), discussing the recent assassination attempt made against him.
Introduced by UFC president Dana White, Trump shared details of the attack, where he was shot in the ear while giving a speech at a Pennsylvania rally. Trump, sporting a bandage on his right ear, stated that this would be the only time he would discuss the incident.
“I’ll tell you what happened, and you’ll never hear it from me a second time because it’s too painful,” Trump said, recalling the events from last Saturday.
Speaking of the moment he was shot, Trump mentioned talking about immigration before feeling the impact on his ear. He recounted the immediate realization of the seriousness of the situation, leading him to drop to the ground for safety.
Images of the assassination attempt were displayed as Trump continued to detail the harrowing experience, expressing gratitude for the protection provided by Secret Service agents.
Trump reflected on the close call he had with the assassin’s bullet, emphasizing the role of divine intervention in his survival. He also shared his reason for getting back up and raising his fist, reassuring the crowd of his well-being.
During his speech, Trump honored firefighter Corey Comperatore, who lost his life in the shooting, as well as the other attendees who were injured.
