Netflix has announced that customers on the $11.99 per month Basic Plan will need to choose a new option soon, according to the company’s earnings report on Thursday.
The Basic Plan has already been phased out in Canada and Great Britain, and now it will be eliminated in the U.S. and France.
Netflix is experiencing a growth in advertising revenue, as it started offering ad-supported plans 18 months ago. Although advertising is not the main source of revenue for Netflix, the income from ads is increasing rapidly.

Spencer Adam Neumann, Netflix’s CFO, has suggested that advertising could become a primary source of income for the service by the year 2026.
As Netflix expands its programming to include live events, such as the WWE and NFL games on Christmas Day, customers will have to consider their options for the streaming service.

If you prefer an ad-free experience, Netflix’s Standard Plan is available for $15.49 per month. This plan provides full HD content, no advertisements, and allows simultaneous streaming on two devices with the option to add an extra member.
For those who don’t mind ads, the ad-supported plan is priced at $6.99 per month. This plan includes full HD content and simultaneous streaming on two devices, but no option to add an extra member.
The most expensive plan offered by Netflix is priced at $22.99 per month, providing four simultaneous streams and Ultra HD content.
