Approximately 20 million people tuned in to watch Donald Trump deliver his controversial speech on the last night of the Republican National Convention.
As reported by Forbes, the ratings for RNC Night 4 show that 23 million viewers watched the speech, with expectations for an increase once Nielsen’s final numbers are released. During the time frame of 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET, Fox News had the highest number of viewers with 8.818 million, followed by NBC with 3.556 million, ABC with 2.679 million, CNN with 1.944 million, and MSNBC with 1.138 million viewers.
Early Nielsen data, as mentioned by Puck’s Dylan Byers, suggests that Fox’s viewership will likely exceed 10 million during the same time period, marking it as the network’s most-watched convention ever.
Trump took the stage on Thursday (July 19) night at the RNC to formally accept the Republican party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential race.
His speech, which lasted around 90 minutes, touched on various subjects, including the shooting at his campaign rally and his repeated false claims about the 2020 election. Fact-checkers have highlighted numerous false statements made during the speech, which often deviated from the teleprompter.
Viewership for the first night (Monday) of the RNC was reported to be 18.13 million, marking a 21 percent decrease from 2016 but an improvement from the same night of the 2020 RNC. The second night (Tuesday) saw 14.81 million viewers, while the third night (Wednesday) saw an increase with 17.97 million viewers.
