In a speech that lasted over 90 minutes, Donald Trump emotionally recounted his assassination attempt while accepting the Republican nomination for president.
Trump took the stage at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee to chants of “USA” from the crowd.

Recounting the assassination attempt

“So many people have asked me what happened,” he said. “And therefore, I’ll tell you exactly what happened, and you’ll never hear it from me again, because it’s too painful to recount.”
Trump explained how he narrowly avoided the bullet when he turned his head to look at a chart of border crossings, realizing the seriousness of the situation when he heard a loud whizzing sound.
Praising the Secret Service agents who protected him during the shooting, Trump mentioned how the crowd identified the shooter after he was hit.
“I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” he said, evoking chants of “Yes you are” from the crowd.
