WASHINGTON — A growing chorus of Democratic lawmakers called Friday for President Joe Biden to drop his reelection bid, even as the president insisted he’s ready to return to the campaign trail next week.
As more Democratic members of Congress called for him to drop out Friday — bringing the total since his disastrous debate against Trump to at least 30 — Biden remained isolated at his beach house in Delaware after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
The president, who insists he can beat Trump, huddled with family and relied on a few longtime aides as he resisted calls to step aside.
Late Friday, Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat in a tough race for reelection, he agrees with “the many Ohioans” who reached out to him and called for Biden to step aside.
Rep. Morgan McGarvey, D-Ky., also called on Biden to drop out Friday night, saying, “there is no joy in the recognition he should not be our nominee in November. But the stakes of this election are too high.”
