BILLINGS — The 2024 Big Sky State Games Montana Mile races on Friday brought new winners to the forefront.
Bozeman athletes claimed victory in both the women’s and men’s races during this year’s Big Sky State Games opening ceremonies at Daylis Stadium. Hayley Burns, a Northern Arizona runner and Bozeman graduate, clinched the gold in the 25th women’s race, while Carson Steckelberg, a Montana Grizzlies runner and Bozeman Gallatin alum, took home the 33rd men’s title.
Both runners outpaced their college teammates who were chasing them to the finish line. In the women’s race, Helena’s Odessa Zentz finished right behind Burns, and in the men’s race, Helena’s Henry Ballinger did the same against his UM teammate.
