A wildfire that broke out Friday at the upper end of Blacktail Canyon 4 miles southeast of Butte grew to nearly 100 acres overnight and on Saturday, more air tankers and helicopters were joining the all-out firefighting effort.
The fire was reported shortly before 3 p.m. Friday in the Homestake Pass area between Interstate 90 and Highway 2, sending billowing plumes of smoke into the air as firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and area departments scurried to the scene.
By early Friday evening, air tankers and helicopters had joined operations and more were expected Saturday.
