Air tankers, helicopters with water-bucket drops and water “scooper” airplanes kept a wildfire 4 miles southeast of Butte within its current footprint on Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service reported Saturday night.
The wildfire broke out Friday afternoon at the upper end of Blacktail Canyon and had grown to 96 acres by Saturday morning, but was listed at 68 acres in an evening update from officials with the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
More than 150 personnel were fighting the fire, including three “hotshot” hand crews, other hand crews and those manning several airplanes and helicopters. There were also three engines at the scene.
