President Joe Biden has announced his decision to not run for the 2024 presidential race against Republican candidate Donald Trump after facing pressure from fellow Democrats and media pundits.
Despite being elected in 2020 and initially resisting calls to step down, Biden finally conceded to the demands, especially from top party officials like former President Barack Obama, who believed he had the best chance to win.
In a statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday, July 21, Biden stated that he will address the nation in more detail later in the week, emphasizing his commitment to fulfilling his duties as President for the remainder of his term.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” he said. “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Despite winning the Democratic primary with over 14 million votes, Biden faced increasing pressure to relinquish his delegates at the DNC due to questions about his ability to beat Trump, especially after a lackluster performance at the first debate.
Despite the pressure, Biden remained defiant and even planned to return to the campaign trail after recovering from Covid following Trump’s RNC acceptance speech.
