GLACIER NATIONAL PARK — A 30-acre wildfire has been reported in the Muir Creek drainage area off Highway 2 in Glacier National Park.
The fire was first reported on Tuesday and is four miles north of US Highway 2, above the Fielding Cutoff Trail, which is currently closed due to the fire.
Due to its location, current weather conditions, and limited availability of national firefighting resources, full suppression efforts were immediately implemented to manage the fire.
Helicopter rappelers arrived on scene Wednesday morning and aviation resources are dropping water to contain the fire. Despite suppression efforts, the fire has grown from the original 8 acres to 30 acres due to increased fire activity.
Glacier National Park firefighters will continue to monitor the fire until a Type 3 Incident Management Team takes over on Friday.
