Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race on Sunday, recent polling indicates a close competition in the race for the White House.
Emerson College reports that former President Donald Trump has a slight lead in several battleground states. Trump is ahead in four out of five states, with Vice President Kamala Harris tied with Trump in one state.
Here are the results from the survey conducted on Monday and Tuesday:
- Trump leads 49-44 in Arizona
- Trump leads 48-46 in Georgia
- Trump leads 46-45 in Michigan
- Trump leads 48-46 in Pennsylvania
- Harris and Trump are tied at 47-all in Wisconsin
Harris’s support is slightly stronger than Biden’s earlier this month. In a previous poll by Emerson College between Biden and Trump, Trump had larger leads in all five states.

Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, stated, “Harris has regained some of the Democratic vote on the presidential ticket since the aftermath of the June 27 debate. Harris’s numbers now resemble the support levels Biden had in March.”
The poll suggests that younger voters show more support for Harris compared to Biden.
Kimball added, “Young voters have shifted towards Harris: her support has increased by 16 points in Arizona, eight in Georgia, five in Michigan, 11 in Pennsylvania, and one in Wisconsin compared to earlier polling this month.”
The poll also reveals that Harris has a higher favorability rating in the swing states than Biden.
Harris’s approval rating is 10 points higher in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin compared to President Biden. Furthermore, Trump and Harris have similar favorability ratings in all five states surveyed.
