MISSOULA – Missoula Big Sky has selected its first high school baseball coach.
Ryan Roche has been chosen to head the Eagles in their inaugural season. The aim is to initiate high school baseball for all three of Missoula’s Class AA schools next spring if fundraising targets are achieved, and fundraising is progressing well.
“We are thrilled about the passion, game knowledge, and leadership that Ryan will bring to our baseball program and our Big Sky community,” stated Big Sky athletic director Jack Young in a message to the Missoulian and 406 MT Sports.
Roche most recently served as manager for the Missoula Impact Baseball Club.
Roche was heavily recruited out of high school in California and committed to Montana State University Billings as a utility player/pitcher on a baseball scholarship. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, he set an MSU Billings school record with six hits in a game and had an outstanding season, batting .347 for the year.

Roche played four seasons at MSU Billings before moving to Missoula. His versatility as a pitching and defensive coach is particularly valuable because he has experience playing every position, serving as both a pitcher and position player at the NCAA Division II level.
Roche was unavailable for comment on Wednesday night.
