BELGRADE — There must be something in the water at the Gallatin Valley Sharp Shooters warehouse facility. How else could a small-town youth shooting club in Belgrade be represented in the past two Olympics?
Coming up in Paris, Manhattan’s Ivan Roe will represent the United States and GVSS on the world’s biggest stage at the 2024 Olympics. Roe was an alternate in the past two Olympics, and now he gets his chance and will compete in three events (men’s 10m air rifle, men’s 50m rifle 3 positions and mixed team 10m air rifle).
At the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, it was Belgrade’s Alison Weisz, another GVSS alumnus, representing the U.S. in the women’s air rifle.
In consecutive Olympics, the coaches and students at GVSS get the chance to watch an alumnus compete for gold.

“It’s really cool,” Gallatin Sharp Shooters President Lee Nelson said. “(It shows) you’re doing something right for those kids. And it’s a definite motivator for the young kids now because they actually see the results.”
And Roe and Weisz aren’t the only shooters who have found success after moving on from GVSS. The club has sent alumni to collegiate programs such as Nebraska, Ohio State, Texas Christian University and other Division I universities.
