HELENA — The Billings Royals split a twin bill against the Helena Senators on Friday in one of their final tuneups before the State AA Tournament next week, losing 5-2 before winning 5-3 in the capital city.
In the first game, the Royals mustered single runs in the first and fifth innings but were unable to match Helena’s offensive output as a whole. Sy Waldron and Paxton Fitch had two hits apiece while Carson Jenkins-Antle threw a complete game on the mound, with four of his runs given up being earned.
Game 2 went much better for Billings, in which it scored three runs in the third inning and two runs in the sixth to push itself past the Senators.
Ethan Chaney and Fitch each had RBIs while Chaise Tracy and Waldron each tallied two hits. On the mound, Jaiden Turner started and went six innings — striking out four while only giving up three hits and one earned run — while Alex Peel came in to close in the seventh inning, successfully earning the save in the process.
