Food safety officials are once again alerting consumers across the U.S. about produce sold at large retailers that may be contaminated with listeria.
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning expanding a recall for vegetables sold at Walmart and Aldi locations in more than a dozen states.

The recall from Wiers Farm Inc. of Willard, Ohio, has been expanded to include green beans, peppers, and other vegetables that could potentially cause serious illness. The original recall on July 12 was for cucumbers sold at major stores from the distributor.
The FDA has stated that Wiers Farm is cooperating with the Ohio Department of Agriculture to investigate the situation that led to the massive recall and to contain the contaminated vegetables.
A list of locations where the vegetables were sold, along with the types and how to identify the products included in the recall, can be found online on the health officials’ website. Consumers are warned not to consume the affected produce.

Symptoms of listeria usually appear within two weeks after consuming contaminated food, but they may start as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after. Mild symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, tiredness, vomiting, and diarrhea.
More severe cases may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
