In the opening event of the shooting program at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Manhattan’s Ivan Roe made his debut in the 10 meter mixed team air rifle Saturday morning in Chateauroux, France.
Roe competed with Sagen Maddalena on one of two U.S. squads entered in the event. Roe and Maddalenda placed 18th overall in qualifying with a combined score of 624.9. Roe shot a consistent 103.5 twice and 103.3 in the second round to total 310.3 across all three rounds.
The second U.S. team, Mary Tucker and Rylan Kissell were 13th with 626.0.
In the medal round directly after, Kazakhstan’s Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev won the bronze medal 17-5 against Germany’s Maximilian Ulbrich and Anna Janssen. China’s Lihao Sheng and Yuting Huang won the gold medal by defeating South Korea’s Jihyeon Keum and Hajun Park 16-12 to capture the first gold medal of the Games.

It’s the first of three events Roe is scheduled to compete in this week with the 10-meter men’s air rifle event up next tomorrow.
Roe is the second competitor in as many Olympics to make an appearance who got their start at the Gallatin Valley Sharp Shooters club in Belgrade and following in the footsteps of Ali Weisz who competed in Tokyo and is serving as an alternate in Paris.
Roe was a seven-time All-American in college at Murray State and then joined the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit where he’s currently a sergeant.
