Sunday marks the first day of Montana Pride’s 31st annual celebration, and from art to comedy to profanity-covered mugs, it is packed with festivities.
This Pride’s biggest change is the parade’s timeline, Montana Pride President Kevin Hamm said.

The Aug. 3 parade will be in the evening to help accommodate performers and organizers who have to drive from out of town. Everything is more expensive, Hamm said, and this lets people drive in instead of booking a hotel.
This also keeps performers from being in costume for over 12 hours, he said with a laugh.
The parade is 5:30-7:30 p.m. and staging begins at Anchor Park at 5 p.m., and the parade march starts at 6 p.m.. It will follow Last Chance Gulch, moving through the walking mall and to Lawrence Street. Registration to march is still open and is $50 per group. Watching the parade is free.

Beyond the fun, this Pride, which celebrates LGBTQ+ people, is full of both celebration and awareness, Hamm said.
“It’s been a long year and a long summer,” he said. He thinks of a deeply controversial political season.
