MISSOULA — Adam Fogel’s rookie season in the Pioneer Baseball League has been truly remarkable over the first nine weeks.
Leading the PBL in home runs (26), batting average (.433), and runs batted in (85), the Missoula PaddleHeads outfielder is on track to break the league’s single-season home run record set two years ago by former Missoula first baseman and league MVP Jayson Newman.
This is quite impressive for a 25-year-old who missed the 2023 season due to Tommy John surgery.
“Surprised might be an understatement,” Fogel shared. “I had high expectations, but nothing like this.
“Talking to my dad, who is my biggest fan along with my mom, even he couldn’t envision this. It’s truly a blessing, a result of hard work and a bit of luck.”

With a significant part of the season still ahead, Fogel is a strong contender for the PBL triple crown and is poised to break the league’s home run record.
Fogel’s power surge has been exceptional given his past. His college season high for home runs was eight while playing for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
Recognizing his unique longball potential, a result of physical and mental maturity, requires discipline. Fogel admits to occasionally getting “pull happy,” but he values the experience.
“It’s great that my close friend (Newman), who I train with in the offseason, holds the record,” Fogel remarked. “It would be cool if we could be the top two. But time will tell.”
Only time will reveal if Fogel can maintain his exceptional performance. It’s evident that pitchers in the league should be cautious around him in critical situations.
One thing Fogel is certain about is that this season has been the most enjoyable playing baseball for him.
“The PaddleHeads have created a great environment,” Fogel expressed. “From the top down, they bring in amazing individuals. It’s strange how close you can become to teammates in just a few months.
“Credit goes to (manager Michael) Schlact, (team president) Matt Ellis, (assistant coach Tyler) Jeske, and all the front-office staff for bringing together a fantastic group.”
Schlact admires Fogel’s composure and leadership qualities.
“He maintains a calm and confident demeanor,” Schlact remarked. “His leadership is outstanding, especially for a young player. He sets the tone both on and off the field.”
Standing at 6-foot-5, the California native has hit multiple home runs over 450 feet this season. Apart from the impressive stats, Fogel values the connection he has established with Missoula as a fan favorite.
“This week has been particularly satisfying in bringing joy to PaddleHeads fans,” Fogel expressed.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Missoula affected by the recent storm. I hope PaddleHeads baseball can provide some relief. We’re here to entertain.”
On Friday night, the PaddleHeads dominated the Billings Mustangs with a 24-3 victory at Ogren-Allegiance Park, starting strong with nine runs in the first inning and a total of 26 hits.
Miscellaneous players hit home runs, including Fogel, Roberto Pena, Mike Rosario, and Kamron Willman. Fogel finished with five hits, three doubles, a home run, and four RBIs.
Missoula starter Nick Parker excelled, earning the win by allowing only two earned runs in six innings. Billings starter Ethan Ross struggled, giving up nine runs in the first inning before being pulled.
