Former supporters of Amb. Nikki Haley who are now backing Vice President Kamala Harris have stated that they will not stop their support despite receiving a letter on behalf of Haley.
The group’s campaign initially supported Haley over former President Donald Trump through a PAC. However, after Haley lost in the primaries, they shifted their focus to supporting President Joe Biden and now support Harris following the Democratic ticket change.
Despite receiving nearly 20 percent support during the Republican primaries, Haley has endorsed Trump.
“PivotPAC has made sincere efforts to show respect for Ambassador Haley and all her supporters, regardless of their voting decisions. We initially believed, and still do, that Ambassador Haley was the best choice for the country over former President Trump. Our belief now is that Vice President Harris is the better choice for the country,” the group stated in response to the press statement.
“The claim that PivotPAC is intentionally misrepresenting information to the public is baseless and defamatory. We will not stop our activities under the ‘Haley Voters for Harris’ campaign as our First Amendment rights will not be silenced, and our actions are fully compliant with the law,” they added.
Following the letter, the group has received small donations and messages supporting their ‘Haley Voters For Harris’ campaign.
As they target previous Haley supporters, the group aims to test different messaging among center-right voters in light of the Democratic ticket change and plans to launch a significant communications campaign.
Craig Snyder, the director of Haley Voters For Harris, stated, “Our goal is to inform and persuade as many center-right voters as possible who have expressed concerns about supporting Donald Trump. We will provide them with information and hope to sway their opinions.”
The group intends to conduct messaging tests with panels of undecided voters in swing states.
Snyder expects the Trump campaign to paint Harris as radical, but he highlights her background as a prosecutor to counter this narrative.
Since the ticket change, the group has emphasized enthusiasm, following the lead of the Harris campaign.
The campaign has recruited a former GOP lawmaker’s chief of staff to lead its Republican outreach efforts.
Austin Weatherford, the campaign’s national Republican engagement director, expressed, “Millions of Republicans have spoken up against Donald Trump’s extremism and continue to voice concerns about his suitability for office. These voters are welcome in the Harris campaign’s coalition.”
In a recent CNN interview, Haley defended her decision to support Trump while acknowledging the choice between Trump or Harris.
A recent poll showed that 5% of Republicans support Harris, with 40% of independents supporting her compared to 38% supporting Trump.
